5 signs it’s time to upgrade your old pet flap

Pet flaps have come a long way. If yours has been in place for years, it may still work, but that does not always mean it is still the best option.

Old pet flap upgrade

If your current flap is draughty, damaged or no longer suits your pet’s needs, an upgrade can make a real difference.

1. It lets in cold air or rain

Older flaps often lose their seals over time. That can make your home less comfortable and less energy efficient.

2. It no longer feels secure

If you worry about stray animals or poor locking, a newer microchip or premium flap can give you much better peace of mind.

3. Your pet has changed

Kittens grow, dogs age and some pets need easier access than they did before. The right flap should match your pet now, not just when it was first installed.

4. It looks tired

A worn or yellowing flap can make the whole installation look dated. Replacing it can improve both appearance and performance.

5. Better options now exist

Smart flaps, prey detection and improved insulation have made modern pet doors much more capable than older models.
